4 Favourite Summer Candles to Scent Your Home

February 14, 2021

When I think of candles, I mentally paint a very particular picture. It includes a roaring fire, cosy pyjamas, fluffy socks, a stack of unread books, basically, my *actual* dream, what I’m imaging is a typically ‘Winter’ scene. But as a certified candle addict, my usage can’t be limited to only the colder months, and I love burning candles all year round. In fact, some of my absolute favourite scents are much better suited for the warmer weather and strongly scented enough that you can enjoy the fragrance by just removing the lid.

Refreshing, zesty, floral, herbaceous and tart fragrances are so beautiful to burn on a hot summer evening or to fill a room all day long when it’s too hot to keep fresh flowers looking their best. So here are a few favourites from my candle collection, some are longtime loves and others are newer finds but they’re all perfect to enjoy this Summer.

Summer Candles

Ginsberg Is God – Bella Freud
When I think of Summer, I always think of tomatoes. It’s one of my favourite smells from the garden; not just the fruit, but also the fragrance from the tomato vines. This candle captures that exact scent and has added the fragrance of Fig Leaves and Ripe Tomatoes to really drive home those luscious Summer vibes. Poured in a chic, matte black vessel with a white inscription, it adds a special touch to any room.
Hand-poured, natural wax with a cotton wick.
Burn time: 40 hours

Tuileries Palais-Royal – Kerzon
I’m big enough to admit when the packaging has suckered me in, and in the case, the warm teal vessel totally got my attention but I’m pleased to report the scent inside is just as grand. Soft and fresh florals, with a bit of a mossy aquatic fragrance there too. Notes include Hyacinth with a base of ‘woody green notes’ – I’m not sure exactly what that means, but upon reading it I’m nodding, because that’s exactly what the candle smells of; woody and green.
Natural wax with a cotton wick.
Burn time: 45 hours approx.

Loving – Bella Freud
Another perfectly balanced, botanical candle from Bella Freud. Loving features a blend of soft Tuberose and warm Sandalwood, neither of which I’m usually a fan of but this is incredible. It manages to be floral and refreshing while also being warm and inviting at the same time. It’s housed in a gorgeous true-red vessel too, which I adore.
Hand-poured, natural wax with a cotton wick.
Burn time: 40 hours

Lost in Amalfi – Glasshouse Candles
This candle is exactly what I want the sea to smell like in the Summer. The candle features Freesia, Lime and Moss which makes it subtly floral and zesty, while still having that aquatic base of freshness.
Notes include Freesia, Thyme, Tarragon, Lavender, Moss, Musk and Patchouli.
Soy blend wax with a cotton wick.
Burn time: up to 65 hours.

Summer Candles

Don’t forget to re-use your candle jars (that’s one of the reasons I like to pick ones that have pretty colours or interesting designs) as small vases, pens cups, jars to hold your makeup brushes or even just as decor on a bookshelf. What do you reuse your jars as? And what are your favourite candle scents?

These all sound lovely, I love the idea of having candles but my partner had a very bad accident a few years ago with fire and he can’t have them in the house, at Christmas we have some ornaments that you put a tea light in but we use the fake ones from Amazon, it’s a shame but I completely understand xxx

I totally get it! A lot of people don’t like having lit candles at home for one reason or another. In those cases the pre-lit ones are so handy, and diffusers too! x

The Bella Freud candles are so nice, I love the bold designs. I just wish that they were a bit more affordable.

I’m on the look out for some cheaper ones but good quality.

I’m definitely looking forward to getting back into stores and smelling candles in person! There are so many smaller brands that make great quality candles that aren’t as spendy x

I have a phobia of fire, so even though I don’t burn candles I still like to have them in the house as decor x
