Review: Avene Hydrance Intense Rehydrating Serum

January 29, 2021

Is it a cream? Is it a serum? Is it a moisturiser? Can we call it a hybrid between all three??
The Avene Hydrance Intense Rehydrating Serum really does take the place of multiple products. Light and thin like a serum, but lush and hydrating like a moisturiser cream, it ticks a lot of boxes, especially at this hot and humid time of the year. When I use this, I can forgo a hydrating serum (a daily essential of mine) and if my combo skin is feeling particularly difficult I can skip the moisturiser too and go straight in with a sunscreen.

Avene Hydrance Intense Rehydrating Serum

What Makes It Special:
It is incredibly hydrating. Packed with thermal spring water and glycerin, and with added Benzoic Acid which works to reinforce the skin’s barrier which helps to ensure moisture retention. It’s simple, making it perfect for sensitive skin. It only aims to do one thing and that is to hydrate, but it does it really, really well.

Why I Like It:
This was an absolute saviour last Summer when my brother’s girlfriend got badly sunburnt at the beach and came home looking like a lobster. There is no fragrance or actives that are going to aggravate broken skin, it’s light enough to absorb and hydrate, but it doesn’t seal in the heat, and it’s incredibly moisturising.

I realise that prevention is better than cure (wear sunscreen kids) but sometimes accidents happen, and when they do, Avene Hydrance Intense Rehydrating Serum is what I recommend to all the lobsters.

What I Don’t Like About It:
The packaging drives me kinda nuts. I would be eternally grateful if they updated the packaging to be a bagged/air-tight pump bottle so you could open it up and get every last bit out. Or a tube? But the current packaging means that the last little bit always goes to waste which is annoying.

Application:
Apply Avene Hydrance Intense Rehydrating Serum as you would any serum; after cleansing (and toner if you use one) and before moisturiser or oil.
